Well, there are so many AZA accreddited zoos with awful, outdated elephant facilities that this alone doesn`t mean anything. AZA minimum standards for elephants are pittyful. I have no doubt that the sanctuary in Tennessee would be a much better place for her.

1st Third generation elephant born in North America! At African Lion Safarin in Ontario.

The Canadian Press: Rare elephant born in southern Ont. first third-generation calf on continent

The 2nd is soon to follow at Portland, Oregon.

Can you tell me his family tree?
Is he a full third gen. ie: in both mother and fathers line?

Chuck isnt a full third generation...The sire Rex is a founder. The dam's line goes like this

Mali born in Syracuse NY to Indy (founder) and Targa who was born in 1983 to Roman Schmidt's elephant herd (probably at the old Circus World place) to Vance and Birka (both founders).

Just wanted to put up more updated info on Pittsburgh Zoo.There are actually two males,Callee and Jackson and 6females,Moja,Savanna,Tasha,Victoria,Angelina and Zuri

Thanks zoogoer, I forgot to add the zoo's newest birth to the thread! They'll be getting two cows more very soon at their new conservation center.

how are only two coming from the Philedelphia?I thought there were three?.The Chai thing is really sad.She already lost Hansa and now the other calf.i Like how even though they only have one acre,they don't try cramming like 12 elephants in.

Philly's oldest African elephant died back in June...now they have but two much younger cows.

i'd be thinking that Ambika at National Zoo is now on of the oldest as she turned 60 this year

African Elephant Birth & Tragic Death @ Montgomery Zoo

The Montgomery Zoo celebrated its second elephant birth, a male, last week. However soon after the birth, the dam - Mary - died from complications of colic and intestinal rupture.
