Any word on the expansion of the elephant exhibit? The new barn is wonderful but the paddock is far too small for the number of elephants that the zoo has. I read somewhere on ZooChat that once the giraffes move into the $50 million "African Forest" in December then the Masai giraffe exhibit will be connected to the existing elephant yard in late 2011.
Press conference sometime this month to announce the construction of phase 2, sucking up the giraffe and cheetah exhibits. Found a document online by googling "Houston zoo Master Plan" about the elephant expansion. Phase 2 will consist of the new yard which will include a new pool and will renovate the existing bull yard and housing structure.
