I was wondering which of the four zoos in the Dallas area (Dallas, Fort Worth, Tyler, Waco) would be your favorite?
I visited all four last year and I can tell you they are all outstanding. Really a great place to visit for zoo lovers. (Throw in Fossil Rim, which is likely the best drive-through park in the country, and you have a real winning combination). If you really have to pick one as best choice, I think Dallas wins for a few reasons: 1) Giants Of The Savannah (no need to expound on this to ZooChatters). 2) Best zoo monorail (not that there is a lot of competition in this category, but still a unique attraction that gives an added experience not found in the other zoos). 3) Best gorilla exhibit (by far) in the Southwest. (Again not much competition here either - surprising how rare these popular animals are in the Southwest US). 4) Best cafeteria choices (Prime Meridian best for food, GOTS cafe best for views - lions). This is the one area where Waco and Tyler fall behind the rest - their food choices are downright awful! (Judging by the unusually high percentage of obese visitors I saw at the zoo in Tyler, health consciousness is not a high priority in rural Texas).
