How big is the rhino exhibit at the zoo? Is it big enough for the two rhinos?

Any death is truly tragic and since he was so young this touches the heart a bit, rest in peace,

It's decent size, not huge. I think it would be okay for adolescent rhinos, but once they grow up they might have to exhibit them alone.

aI don't think they would have to exhibit them alone. The exhibit is large enough for a pair of rhinos.

I guess doesn't have to be that large as long as there is plenty of enrichment, as they say, you could be in a huge mansion with nothing but emptiness, but in a small cottage you could have all the toys you want. ( I think it was by Bloom someone)

Rhinos are awesome creatures , I wish more about them.

Birth at San Diego Wild Animal Park
Old 04-02-2009

On December 23, 2008 a male Indian Rhino calf was born to a first time mother who was not very attentive and not producing much milk. This calf was then taken in to be handraised...which seems to be going well so far. The press release states that this is SDWAP's 58th Indian calf.

Does anyone know who the dam is?

okapikpr,

I have tried my best ...., no luck on the dam or to find out whom the sire was to the 58th Indian rhino calf .... (I was rather hoping for the Bhopo, which technically speaking is possible considering his arrival date and the date of birth). Considering their ages it would have to be either Raji or Asha ....

On the SD-WAP, I do have some queries for our forumsters:
1) Has wild-born female Arati from Forth Worth been exchanged for the SD-WAP bull (where the previous breeding bull Srinivas was loaned out to earlier)?
2) 1 more calf has been born between Jontu in January 2008 and Kaya (in ? 2008) and Ramir in December 2008 (to first time cow, either Raji or Asha). When was this calf born and what sex, to whom?
3) Is Ashanti now allowed to stay on (given the new unrelated bull)?
4) Is Bhopo now the new breeding bull at SD-WAP and has he already sired some calves now?
5) Has Arun been shifted out to Forth Worth already?

It be nice to know all that (JAZZ)!!!

Kifaru,
All of the 2008 calves are listed as having Arun as their sire.
The calves are:
1.0 Jontu (Jan 2008) - Arun x Jakichu
0.1 Kaya (July 2008) - Arun x Goalpara
0.1 Sundari (Nov 2008) - Arun x Shanti
1.0 Ramir (Dec 2008) - Arun x Raji

And yes, Arun has moved back to Fort Worth (as of Nov)

Did'nt Jakichu have a calf back in 2001 that was the first ever to be hand-raised. I remember him being on Zoo Diaries under the name Choto
