i've never been to san diego (waaaaah!!), but didn't some of the porcines already get new exhibits in the new "heart of the zoo" precinct?

also i suspect that the WAP has all teh antelope species that teh zoo has, so i suspect they will just move them there, or relocate them elesewhere in the zoo when they do so for the zebra and giraffe.

Yes, there are groups of both bearded pigs and Visayan warties in the new heart of the zoo.

Kiang,

Your source?

I have been awaiting confirmation of the birth for some time now. At the last Rhino Mayday SD staff confirmed the female to be pregnant. Yet no newspaper ever reported his birth in July!

It is strange that this birth has yet to filter through into the ISIS data sets for San Diego!

Perhaps, our US forumsters can clarify the business here???!

The female calf is named "Sundari" -- Bengali for "beauty". She was born on Nov. 11, 2008 to dam Shanti. This is the 57th calf born at the Park. There are now 12 Indian rhinos in the Park's Asian Plains.

That's great news, Shanti is the most valuable of all San Diego's Indian Rhinos. She was wild caught - thus a founder...while the rest of San Diego's females are a result of much overbreeding.

Do you know is Arun is still the breeding male and the sire of Sundari?

Arun is the sire. Bhopu the new male hasn't been at the Wild Animal Park long enough to have sired this calf. Not yet!
