They're also one of two zoos in the world with the "rabbit-sized" Royal Antelope a.k.a "King of Hares" (the other being lowry park zoo in florida) i've always wanted to see them!!!

ha, ha! Sometimes you gotta love the automated removal of "bad words". But a very good report. Makes me want to revisit San Diego. Don't they have Bulwer's Pheasants in Walsrode in Germany or are the San Diego birds really the last outside Asia?

Walsrode are no longer keeping bulwer's pheasants, and San diego is the last zoo keeping this amazing species outside of asia...

Bulwers pheasants are still being bred by several private breeders and if I remember correctly Belfast zoo had some not too long ago and I think there are some others.

If true this is very sad, but not inconsistent with past practice by the self-proclaimed "best zoo in the world."

That is some extremely troubling information, and the San Diego Zoo does not come across as an innocent bystander in this situation.
