The Parker Aviary is opened again after being closed for 2 months for refurbishment. I posted pictures of the signs in the gallery. Based on the look of the signs it seems there might be new birds. I don't know what was in there before.

Thank you for posting those Betsy.

The Parker aviary is now a Central/South American theme whereas it was previously an Asian/Australasian theme. This change must have been made due to the (near) blanket ban of importing wild birds from Asian countries.

I can only assume the bowerbird (a relic of the previous theme) was not moved because this is where it has built its bower.

I don't know that the Asian import ban has as much to do with it as a recent decision to change the theme of the entire area into the geographically ambiguous "Lost Forest" and incorporate previously unrepresented neotropical animals. Tufted capuchins have recently been given a home in this area as well.

Yeah...hopefully including Busch Gardens as well as Zoo Miami (if the zoo has gharials).

The new Reptile Walk looks quite attractive. Seems their giant tortoise yards have now been subdivided. How is the reassembling all giant tortoises into their respective species' groupings coming along.
(this since the SDZ Galapagos giant tortoise group has now been completely mapped with the latest technology from Yale)

How is the radiated tortoise exhibit rating?

It will be interesting to see how this compares to the much more anticipated and time consuming to build exhibit up in LA.

I posted pictures of the Reptile Walk exhibit signs in the gallery. Sorry some of them are blurry. That's what happens when you take pictures with your iphone while keeping your eye on a 2 year old.

According to the SZ's Facebook page, Zookeepers have detected a panda baby (specifically a heartbeat, leg and spine) for Bai Yun. Fingers crossed she gives birth!
