Does anyone have a species list for the species in the main savannah, as wellas edge of africa and rhino rally? Cheers!
Since this wasn't placed in a specific folder, and the Park in question was not named in the original post, I will use my powers of deduction to determine that you are perhaps asking for a species list of the Serengeti Plains at Busch Gardens Tampa?
I can't be 100% specific about subspecies, but here's what I can recall seeing when I visited last month: gazelles (Sommering's?) giraffes, reticulated, I believe and at least a dozen of them kudu eland impala ostrich scimitar-horned oryx sable antelope cape buffalo ankhole cattle maribou stork white rhinoceros (Hartmann's?) zebra nile hippo spotted hyena african lion meerkat ringtail lemur white-backed vulture nile crocodile african spurred tortoise addax wildebeest african cichlid There could be more, this is all off the top of my head.
They display both Hartmanns and Grevys zebras. When on the train, you go through an underground tunnel to go from the Hartmanns to the Grevys.
I seem to recall nyala as well, but I can't say for sure. There were a few individuals toward the end of the savannah ride near the buffalo that looked like nyala, but I couldn't see well enough to tell.
Serengeti Plains Animals: Reticulated Giraffe, White Rhinoceros, Blue Wildebeest, Black Rhinoceros, Grevy's Zebra, Hartmann's Mountain Zebra, Southern Eland, West African Crowned Crane, Masai Ostrich, Impala, Addax, Scimitar-Horned Oryx, Thomson's Gazelle, Cape Buffalo, Bongo, Marabou Stork, Soemmering's Gazelle, East African Crowned Crane Rhino Rally: White Rhinoceros, Hartmann's Mountain Zebra, Impala, Cape Buffalo, Asian Elephant, Scmitar-Horned Oryx, Nile Crocodile, Greater Flamingo? (not sure what kind of flamingoes are on Rhino Rally) Edge of Africa: African Lion, Spotted Hyena, Nile Hippopotamus, Nile Crocodile, African Cichlid, White-Backed Vulture, Ring-Tailed Lemur, Red-Fronted Lemur, Meerkat I think that's it, or at least that's what I've seen
Is anyone else as disappointed as I am with the trend lately to put (domestic) ankhole cattle in savannah exhibits? Two of the large scale (and otherwise excellent) savannahs here in Arizona have gone that way (Phoenix Zoo and Out Of Africa).
The ankole cattle hve a separate exhibit by the entrance of the sky ride. Also the sable antelope are behind jungala and only seen by the train.
10 days ago, I visited Busch Gardens again (after 10 years). And I was a little disapointed, specially about the decrease of the hoofstock. There were no (more) Bongos, no (more) Soemmerings Gazelle and even the former exhibit of the Black Rhinos at the Serengeti seems to be no longer exist. Does anyone know what is happen?
Bongos - parasites (will be returning in next 1-2 years); Soemmerings - still there, just not on display yet; Black Rhinos - difficult to breed and place any offspring, not interested in species anymore. There will be an increase in species in the next 1-2 years.
Anyone have any updates on new animals on display in the savannah exhibit? Or a current list? I might visit tomorrow.
A White Rhino was born about 3 months ago or so. Serengeti Plain: Outside train station: Thomson's Gazelle Habitat 1: Reticulated Giraffe Impala Addax Ostrich Common Eland Grevy's Zebra Marabou Stork Habitat 2: White Rhinoceros Grant's Zebra Greater Kudu Wildebeest Watusi (in their own enclosure) Rhino Rally: Asian Elephant Impala Scimitar-Horned Oryx I've seen both Grant's and Hartmann's Mountain Zebras, never at the same time though. Cape Buffalo Caribbean Flamingo Nile Crocodile White Rhinoceros Edge of Africa: Meerkat White-Backed Vulture Spotted Hyena African Lion Common Hippopotamus Nile Crocodile African Cichlid Ring-Tailed Lemur Red-Fronted Lemur I might be missing a few.
I know they had Black Rhino and saw it in February 2011, but I did not see the rhino in April 2012, leading to me that it might have been taken off-exhibit for a while, or they just didn't point it out on that train ride. I believe Bongo were taken off-exhibit.
I think your right about the bongo. Didn't see them but I forgot to mention we also saw Lowland nyala in a off exhibit area and sable antelope as well.
