It looks like a new Sumatran Rhino facility will happen sooner than later. The Cincinnati Zoo is building a new eagle exhibit...note the current eagle exhibit overlooks the Sumatran rhino pens and it would have to go to build the proposed atrium for the rhinos. Next would be the relocation of the other hoofstock in Wildlife Canyon, also wouldnt the zoo need to temporarily relocate the rhinos when they do build the atrium? The other hoofstock area is well built to support rhinos...all it would need to shade structures.

The eagle aviary overlooking the sumatran rhinos is actually a fairly good, well planted exhibit. The relocation of the rhinos could prove to be tricky, as they certainly require quite a substantial amount of shade.

Are the Sumatran rhinos actually affected by eye problems or has the shaded protection from bright light managed to prevent this? Do they all suffer similarly?

The eye problems (cloudiness) prompted the construction of the shade structures in the last 5 or so years. After the shade structures were installed, keepers noticed improvements.
