Does anyone know if there are still any gorillas in the U.S. zoo population that were born in the wild? I'm assuming that any that were intentionally collected have died of old age, but I wasn't sure if there were any that might have been rescued from the black market/illegal pet trade.
The gorillas listed below are the sole surviving animals that were originally collected from the wild. As it stands, all others have been captive bred at zoo's, there are none that are recent additions via confiscations or whatnot. Toronto: Charles Josephine Woodland Park Pete Amanda Zoo Atlanta Ozzie Choomba Shamba Miami Metro Zoo Josephine Gladys Porter Lamydoc Brookfield Ramar Little Rock Trudy Louisville Helen Milwaukee Femelle Monkey Jungle King Pittsburgh Zakula San Diego Wild Animal Park Winston Vila
Thanks for the info guys, I'm surprised! I didn't think there would be that many wild collected gorillas still alive.
According to the link I supplied in an earlier post, Hogle Zoo had a male "Tino", wild born in 1973, although this individual died on 27th May 2015.
