Exciting news has been announced by the zoo, on Tuesday a sloth bear cub was born at the zoo. This is the 3rd litter of sloth bears born in the zoo this year in the US.

National Zoo had a sloth bear litter this year?!?!? Was it ever publicized? Or was in a DNS litter?

The zoo announced it yesterday on their Facebook account, but the single cub was born on December 19.

Off topic, it's been a pretty successful year for bear cubs. Not all of them made it, but the births did happen. If only a polar bear could follow the pattern this winter...

It turns out there were actually two sloth bears born!

The article also mentions that the breeding male passed away, so this is bittersweet news.
