Sauvage Zoo of St-Félicien Saint-Félicien Wild Zoo news

A keeper was attacked at the zoo by one of the Amur Tigers. He and the tiger were found in the pen together and luckily for the keeper he was rescued and taken to hospital.

The zoo will be getting a male cougar, Charlie, from Riverview Park and Zoo in Ontario after being found wandering too close to homes in Grafton. He is clearly a captive raised animal despite the fact no one has admitted to owning him or informing the MNR of his escape.

Charlie arrived at the zoo safe and sound this week.

Jonathan, a wolverine male from Kristiansand Zoo, Norway. Will be sent in some days to Ohio, US for 60 days in quarantine. After the quarantine he will be sent to St-Felicien.

 

Cool, maybe this means they are looking to breed some genetically valuable babies.

 

That´s correct TZFan! The zoo will use him for breeding.

 

I'm not familiar with most of the zoo's stock so good guess on my part.

 

Female polar bear, Aisaqvak, has been moved from the main exhibit to the maternity area which must mean breeding occurred. Fingers crossed for some healthy cubs adding to the Canadian populations genetic diversity. Yelle is currently unrepresented and only one of three breeding age males.

 

The zoo has just put out its own App for those interested.

Apparently the zoo and not Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat recently welcomed a new resident. 6 year old female polar bear, Milak, arrived Dec 18th from Denmark. It is hoped she will get along with the zoos other two polar bears.

Milak is now exploring her new exhibit.

 

There has been another change up with the polar bears. Yelle has been sent to Aquarium du Quebec while their male Eddy has been sent to the zoo. The change was made to see if different pairings had any more success in producing cubs. Aisaqvak and Eddy have been together since March 10th and even mated during their first time occupying the same space.

Two Bactrian Camels were recently born, a male and a female.

 

The baby boom continues with the birth of a muskox and at least 3 bison calves.

 

The zoos new wolverine pair is now on exhibit.
