The old female in the image, Mawas, religiously removed all grass from the exhibit so the image looks worse. The bricks were of the unfortunate design of the 70s and are dark and gloomy. Thankfully in the current renovations the walls are alot lighter in colour. Also the exhibits were not set up to keep large groups of orangs together which most zoos do. Instead (at the time) orangs were kept in five seperate exhibits linked by viewing from the towers. They were a good design in the 70s, just not very aesthetic.
