Thanks for the update guys! I can recall reading all about the infamous Mr. Simpson shortly after I joined ZooBeat, and I'm glad that he's a wanted man.

Talk about having more front than Myer! That is unreal. Just goes to show you've got to be careful when it comes to credentials.

thats hilarious. knew he was sus for a while and now its gone public. and now our forum has its first real scandal. guess it just goes to show why the major zoos have taken an interest in this forum seeming as it is such a good venue for misapprotriating information, though anyone with an understanding of the ZPB of NSW's policy on public communications could smell this rat.

Jeez - maybe I should come clean before you all find out the truth about ME;
I'm not really a retired Water Board inspector with crook knees (and a head to match),a few aviaries and fish tanks; I'm really a suave multi-millionaire with his own private zoo.........

Well hello there Ara

AS was a busy boy wasn't he, would have been easier for him to just go to TAFE and become a zookeeper!

Old 16-08-2008

From wikipedia

Quote:
Adrian Simpson (24 November 1988 — 15 August 2008) was an Australian impersonator. [1] [2]

[edit] Death
After a number of articles printed in the local newspaper, Adrian Simpson injected himself with an animal euthanasia drug at his private home in Mudgee. He died only hours after the newspaper went on sale. He was 19.[citation needed]

Apparently Adrian called the news outlets who published the story last week (pretending to be someone else) and told them that Adrian had committed suicide - and edited his own Wikipedia entry to that effect. I've heard that he has made other threats of suicide to the media too.

I think he is a very disturbed young man who needs some help

Sounds like he needs some intervention by the mental health crisis team, I have friends in that region in the field, I'll ask them if anything can be done.

Sure, he was way out and he should not have pretended to be what he said he was.

I think the guy obviously needs some looking after. His hobby or whatever has gone totally out of hand. I hope that people will not look down on him once out of court and that he will be taken care of.

But whether a psychiatrist is the right way I am not too sure, perhaps it is better to let him see a psychologist who can get his life back on track.

In true words, it is rather sad ... more than anything else (and that should be the end of it).

'Big cat handler' saved from the cage - National - smh.com.au

Quote:
From: Sydney Morning Herald
by Don Mahoney and Josephine Tovey
September 18, 2008

A GULGONG teenager with a knack for disguises who impersonated a zookeeper at Western Plains Zoo was cleared yesterday of fraud under the Mental Health Act in Mudgee Local Court.

Adrian Simpson, 19, had a uniform and vehicle made up to emulate those used at the zoo in order to impersonate an employee between September last year and February.

During that time he took at least one couple on a tour of the zoo, pretending to be a big cat handler and even taking them inside an enclosure.

Mr Simpson, who lives with Asperger syndrome and narcissistic personality disorder, had also applied to both the Koala Hospital at Port Macquarie and Zoos Victoria for employment, stating he worked at the Dubbo zoo. He had also used false qualifications from a North Queensland TAFE college.

A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said the young man had impersonated other professionals before and was known around town for being "just like that kid from Catch Me If You Can, only better".

Mr Simpson was charged on February 21 after police executed a search warrant at his home and found vehicle accessories he had purchased, receipts and zoo business cards stating that he was the big cat handler, big cat manager and carnivore manager.

His solicitor, Alan Hogan, told the court that Mr Simpson had already embraced counselling and psychiatric treatment.

"He has a problem and is aware of that problem."

The magistrate, Thomas Hodgson, dismissed the charges on the condition that Mr Simpson not commit similar offences for a period of six months.

Mr Simpson's charade extended to the internet: a Wikipedia entry, which has been removed, listed him as one of the world's leading animal experts.

He has been kicked out of Zoo Beat, an online forum for zoo enthusiasts and employees, for pretending to be an employee of Western Plains Zoo.

Mr Hogan had requested that a non-publication order be placed on the case, but the magistrate denied this. Replying to the submission, Mr Hodgson said the case was "certainly newsworthy".

"I have to weigh up public interest against a mental disorder and on this occasion attention should not be diverted from the criminal justice system," he said.

Mr Simpson did not make any statement in court and refused to comment to the media outside.
