Envirodome
Old 05-05-2008

I was wondering what does everyone think about the new envirodome being built at Adelaide. I think it is a waste of space because we could have put other animals there but what does everyone else think?

I agree Ben, it seems that the envirodome is meant to be a great educational place for kids. They get talk to keepers (jealous!)
Children (inculding myself) need to learn about animals and conservation, they are the future.

Oh sorry I didn't know that there will be animals on display, and as a kid i wouldn't mind the education part but most kids I know would not be bothered to really pay attention unless forced. Also do you know what types of animals would be displayed.

you would know more than i do about the animals on display,
but I think otherwise about your kids thing,
I know that most kids aren't overly obsessed with animals but usually with the chance given unless there is a fear most of my year level touched a snake when given the opportunatey. ( then they bagged me)
But that is just my point of view.

For $4 million the envirodome should be an impressive looking building. Interesting that it can easily become overlooked with all of the other news about the zoo entrance, chimpanzees and giant pandas coming to South Australia.

2009 is correct for the giant pandas. There is loads of information on all of the upcoming changes at both Adelaide and Monarto Zoos on their shared website.

I think that is why i overlooked it and same with a lot of people at my school because there is going to be giant pandas at Adelaide, and chimpanzees and in the near future the Serengeti exhibit at Monarto. The Envirodome just doesn't sound as good.

How much did the envirodome cost again? Probably a straight forward question but anyway i think, not trying to sound like i'm giving a platitude but perhaps you don't like a certain style of the dome?
I mean you kinda know it's good but you don't think it's good in your own sense right?
I'm kinda byist as well, i think the Taronga elephant exhibit wasted too much money on something of that size.

i think the envirodome is a good concept at a good time. South Australia is reinventing itself at a breakneck pace and these exciting development including the envirodome mark important steps towards this organisation meeting its environmental and conservation charter.
the concept fits neatly with the evolution of zoos as total conservation learning/resource centres that are more than just about animals and Im sure will become a complimentary asset to the two black and white ones on their way.
i just wish taronga got an envirodome...probably even more so than giant pandas

I actually would like a envirodome in Melbourne as well over Giant Pandas,

Hope that wasn't a platitude

Personally, I'd take the Giant Pandas.
