giraffes coming soon
Old 20-11-2008

I already posted about this in the NZ forum (giraffes going to Australia) but it bears repeating here. One-year-old giraffe Forrest and his older sister Ntombi are being shipped out of Auckland today. After quarantine at Dubbo, Forrest will be going to Australia Zoo (Ntombi will be staying at Dubbo).

Is the first step in Australia Zoo's long-rumored "African Savanna" exhibit?

I think the White rhinos were the first step, things seem to be moving very slow at Aust zoo

Does no one have a problem with seperating these giraffe. Surely Forrest will be very lonely.Or does Australia Zoo have other Giraffe?

It would be likely that he just the first of many. I wouldn't be suprised if we soon hear that giraffes will be coming from Monarto for instance

I was at Australia Zoo last week. I spoke to a zoo worker who told me that in about 18 months they will have lions, cheetahs, rhinos and giraffes on display. The zoo already has cheetahs and rhinos off display. Don't know if they have any lions yet.
