With Kibabu, Fataki and Fuzu moving to Orana Park around 2013, does anyone know what the plans are for the troop at Taronga. The three adult females are getting on in their years and that only leaves Kimya as a breeding female.

Does anyone know if they plan to continue breeding with Mouila, Kriba and Frala and if there is any talk about bringing more in?

I read a comment this morning on Flickr mentioning that a new blackback had arrived. Any one know any info on this?

I assumed that they would be continuing to breed from Mouila, Kriba and Frala, they aren't that old really. I did read on Flickr about a new blackback (from France I think), I'm looking forwaed to hearing more info from the zoo.
Does anyone know if the plan is still for Kibabu, Fataki and Fuzu to go to Orana, or might they be going somewhere else?

My thinking is the boys will be off to mogo as they now or soon will have an empty chimp exhibit after years of building at huge expense it seems silly to leave it empty. This is only my PERSONAL thoughts but seems logical as i dont think orana are currently in a position to take them.

I believe the plan for the three males to go to Orana Park in NZ was ditched for financial reasons at the receiving end, and Mogo will be their new destination.

If a new male has actually arrived(or will shortly), and he is 'a blackback from France' as reported, the most likely candidate would be 'Kibali' born 2001 (parents Yaounde x Moseka) in the Vallee des Singes group. There are a few other possibles but he seems the most likely one to me.

That's interesting as the curator said she was looking in the Netherlands for a silverback

Once again I am surprised that he was not from the Netherlands.....still exciting tho. I imagine that the bachelor boys will be moving soon seeing he is already being introduced.

Charlie is dead; Sam and Holly recently moved to Rockhampton; someone else can tell you what happened to Louis because I don't know

This seems to have happened with very little fanfare or publicity, perhaps because the other males haven't left yet? Kibali is the half-brother(same father, Yaounde)) of Badongo, the new male at Jersey, who is just a year or so older. They look quite similar.

The young female he is currently with looks a bit stressed- hands on ears- probably missing the rest of her group.

Maybe they will bring the other young female they sent to Melbourne back?- she is unlikely to breed while Rigo is in charge of their group, but would almost certainly breed with this fella.

that's just how she behaves all the time. I can't remember the reason (if its known) but its her normal habit. It does look odd though.

    There's a photo of her here: http://www.zoochat.com/34/kimya-114272/

that is how she always behaves, ever since she was young. The keepers think she probably learnt it from her older sisters (born at Apenheul) before they went to Europe.

Didn't realise she did it a lot. It is quite common among some Gorillas worldwide. Often it indicates stress but can also(presumably) be just a habit as in this case then.

Just bringing back an old thread. Whats going on with the new guy? Is he in with the whole troop yet or is he still going through the introduction stage slowly? I haven't been keeping up with Taronga goings on lately. Where is the big fellow Kibabu? Is he now a Kiwi, Bro? Or is he still a fair dinkum vegemite eating Aussie?
