I just read a paper at the Los angeles Zoo that says that the zoo will be receiving a female indian rhino from the Oklahoma city zoo which will later be moved to the Western Plains Zoo. That info was on the bulletin, and it did not include a date of when will happen.

I knew zoobeaters from australia would like the news, but zoobeaters in Europe will also love the news that I will be posting in the cologne zoo section.

I don't think this info is online, but I'm sure it's true because it's info strainght from the zoo not of something I heard. I'll post a pic of the info, I actually did take a pic so I won't forget the info that I saw on the paper.

In actuality, Dubbo then will be getting a more valuable female to breed from. Female Kua was distantly, all be it distantly related to the Basel line (so shared some bloodline somewhere with Dora).

I sure hope that another female rhino will follow in due course too (was it not planned to have 2.2 breeding pairs in the end?)!

Yes Jelle the idea was to get 2.2 pairs for WPZ, also Aust zoo seem to want 1.1 as well

Australia zoo want a pair? I'm sure they do; but I think that they should get experience with other rhinos first (whites maybe) before being entrusted with Indians.

Maybe that's why they already have white rhinos at Australia Zoo??

As for the criticism over going into Indian rhino: Australia Zoo by providing housing for an all male white rhino group ... it is already confronting the rhino experience bit. Mark, perhaps you can elaborate on current indoor housing and outdoor exhibit + facilities for rhinos at Australia Zoo?

By the looks of it on recent acquisition policy and plans communicated Australia Zoo is looking into combi Asia-Africa with Australia. What about the future Masterplan or Collection Plan? Can you elaborate more on Asian eles, Indian rhinos, Sumatran tigers ... ++++++

Zoopro: how come the Australia Zoo now only holds 2 male white rhinos. What has happened to number 3 and which one?

I dont know anything about their housing at Aust zoo for rhinos I believe its not really common knowledge that they have them, as far as Indian rhinos are conserned I believe this is a "long term" plan and not any time soon.

I do intend to visit when their Lemur Island is opened
