quite easily i imagine. the information doesnt say whether the animal sustained the injury whilst under the effects of sedation, or before or after sedation. the zoo takes all precautions during these procedures, but as with any animal, some react differently to drugs. this accident may have happened in the recovery stage, antelopes being panniced whilst wearing off the effects of the drug.
these animals are built to last but bone fractures in antelopes, equids (including domestic) and even cattle can and do occur. im not zoo vet, but im guessing that antelope would fit in to the medium risk category (with primates and carnivores low risk) and animals like giraffe, elephant and hippo high risk.
another tragedy, another feather in PETA'S cap. im only guessing but.
