Perth Zoo is actively working with elephant breeding specialists to articficially inseminate their female elephant Permai. Natural breeding with male, Putra Mas, has failed but they are hopeful they will be successful in breeding this year with Permai giving birth in early 2012.

Its good to hear that she will be artificially inseminated her thanks for sharing, they should breed her whilst she is in "prime" condition.

It sounds like they are announcing a birth in 2012 when she isn't even pregnant yet and several previous attempts have all failed. Unwise or badly worded or overoptimistic?

I would suggest the latter two, and not from the original source.
