YAY at last a pygmy hippo born in Aust it looks like at least some hope now for the species in this country, I wonder if it's possible to get another baby or two born at Taronga before the parents get to old for breeding, I would of liked to seen the adults put together a few years ago but I guess it's better late than never

It looks gorgous on the ABC site. Apparently the parents have been sent back to their owning zoos so I assume Tim has gone back to Melbourne. Let's hope that in time the Cairns place and Taronga/Melbourne can work together to bring their two youngsters together to breed another generation. And yes I hope that another baby or two can be born from both pairs.

Jay That ABC report maybe wrong?, why would they want to send the male back to Melbourne zoo when they could try for more breedings, maybe it would be a good idea for him to stay at Taronga

but if the baby ihas been seperated from its parents, as would naturally happen, does Taronga have room for three seperate hippo pools? i think they only have the one in african water hole and opposite the himilayan Tahr so maybe they sent him back so they have room and he will come back later?

thats just a theory though and i could be realy wrong!

Maybe Melbourne have other plans for him (i.e. other breeding loans)?

Congrats to all Aussies for the Taronga pygmy hippo birth. At last! I do hope that the species can be saved for the ARAZPA region!

What is the present population like at Melbourne and the Wildlife Park (that went into liquidation)?
Any impetus for re-inventing the breeding programme?

Jelle,

The Mareeba wildlife park should have 1.1.1.?
Adelaide may have an old female 0.1. ?
Taronga zoo 0.1 + the new baby
Melbourne 1.0

yay, great news, I remember last year at school I won a jar of loillies on my b'day for guessing the right amount, it was huge and the money was apparently going to help the pygmy hippo exhibit in Taronga, since of Timmy's departure, but its great news that he is back,

I think so, unless I have been taking Timmy as only a male name, for all the articles I've read about him just says Timmy is....
