Ring-tailed Lemurs in QLD
Old 02-06-2008

Cairns Tropical Zoo has become the fourth insitution in the state of QLD to hold ring-tailed lemurs with the acquissition of 5 lemurs.
Other holders are Cairns Wildlife Reserve, Australia Zoo and Alma Park Zoo, which, in addition to Monarto recently becoming a holder makes this species one of the most widely held primates in Australasian zoos.

I think it's lucky because they are a great representative for the madagascar conservation messege and we're lucky in Australia that we have at least one safe lemur species.

So are Cairns Tropical Zoo and Cairns Wildlife Reserve not the same place? (You learn something new every day!)

Ara, Cairns would have to be the zoo (well animal attraction) capital of Australia with something like six or seven animal parks within half hour of each other.

Is that so? Interesting............

It's getting so cold here in Sydney that I might take the lady up there for a week or two.
(Trouble is; we probably won't want to come back!)

probably won't. Took my sister there for her birthday, There's the wildlife park on top of the casino, I spent most of my time there while she gmabled away her pay. It is a great place, loads of tourists though. but again, a bueatiful place with plenty of animals to see.

Cairns Wildlife Dome or something like that. It's not too bad, all natives. It's a giant glass dome tht used to be a function centre or somthing. they had to airlift th crocodile into it's enclosure.

I reckon Sydney would still vie for greatest number of animal attractions in closest proximity to one another but it is an interesting phenomena to see how many wildlife based attractions can pop up when they are based in a international tourist destination renowned for its environmental attractions.
its quite a clever philiosophy as most people who would go to Cairns would have some interest in the reef or rainforest and therefore likely to choose to visit a wildlife park.
As places in greater queensland including Alma, AZ, DD, CWR and CTZ become bigger and evermore viable their contribution to ASMP will increase. Thats not including places like Dreamworld and Currumbins anticipated expansion into exotic taza.
