scimitar horned oryx
Old 14-06-2008

keeping staff at WPZ are handraising a male scimitar horned oryx after its mother died during labour.
there have been an unfortunate number of deaths in this species in recent years at TWPZ, the deaths of young oryx a few years ago would no doubt have been annoying setbacks for the ASMP.
does anyone know how many founders this species has in this country?

I don't know for sure, glyn, but I believe it was only 4 or 5.

I think they might have come from Marwell zoo in U.K. but I'm not certain.

some one from the telegraph must have gone to Dubo for the day because there were a few stories about western plains in the paper last week. the oryx was one of them.
