A Noisy pitta has been succesfully hand-raised. The parent left the young at an age of 4 days alone and the keepers took over the care. They succeeded and the young is now fully fledged and returned to the Rainforest Aviary.

Bongo baby calf is a healthy male ‘Mshindi’ for our one-month-old Eastern Bongo. The name means ‘champion’ in Swahili

yay, another male! As it says in the Taronga release (http://taronga.org.au/news/2015-03-09/bongo-calf-lives-his-name), this "is another success for Taronga’s conservation breeding program for this critically endangered species."

    Oh, wait....

The one plus side of the male births is that it does prevent (further?) inbreeding of the tiny population, as long as the one female in Australia isn't mated with her sons, and should really encourage ZAA to import further founding females if they want their "success" to continue.

New developments have been revealed for the future, including 'Sumatran Tiger Adventure' (currently in construction), 'African Savannah' (featuring giraffe, zebra, fennec foxes and meerkat), 'Congo Forest' (featuring gorilla, bongo and Pygmy hippo) and a new orangutan exhibit: https://taronga.org.au/about-us/development-program

He died a couple of weeks ago... fact.

I was speaking to a keeper not long after, and they were still waiting for the autopsy results.

Fennec Foxes moved to there new home this week up near the zebra's.

do you (or anyone) know where the new otters came from?

And does anyone know where the female dhole will be going/has gone? (It was mentioned earlier she [they, before the male died] was being sent elsewhere).

both the male and female died a couple of weeks ago?! That seems strange. Do you have any more information, or just that they are dead?

Jangala (male) passed away suddenly due to an illness about 5 weeks ago.

Tunlay (female) passed away 2 weeks ago from old age related issues.

Their keepers are completely gutted by the loss of both of them in such a short timeframe... they were well loved by all the keepers, who did everything possible to make sure that all of their needs were met.

Sometimes **** just happens, no matter what you do to try to prevent it.
