I've never been but I found some quotes which make it sound interesting!

This site says which bus to take to get there (Bus 943 to Guan-Donghulin): Beijing Endangered Animal Center-SurroundingArea Tourist Attractions-Chinahotel

It definitely looks like a place I would visit if in Beijing.

There's a big aquarium in Beijing as well (apparently the largest inland aquarium in the world according to publicity).

Hi, Beijing Endangered Animals Center is rebuilt into a safari park now, and its new name is Beijing Wild Animal Park, but as there are two "Wild Animal Park" in Beijing, we usually called it "Daxing Wild Animal Park", and the other one is "Badaling Wild Animal Park". Both of these two Wild Animal Parks are terrible places, though I have never gone to either of them. Both the older Beijing Endangered Animals Center and the new-built Beijing wild Animal Park have the bad reputation of abuse animals, especially the new Beijing Wild Animal Park is notorious for their animal abuse and poor-designed exhibits. The highlights of it include the largest captive population of golden snub-nosed monkeys in the world, and the largest collection of pheasants in China, which include Chinese monals. But I hate this place, because it is the product of the bureaucracy of Forest Bureau. Several years ago, it even nearly successfully made the forest bureau closed the Beijing Zoo and moved all the animals in Beijing Zoo to the Beijing Wild Animal Park! Just because the Wild Animal Park belongs to Forest Bureau, and Beijing Zoo belongs to Bureau of Parks, and the forest bureau thought it was the existence of low-fee Beijing Zoo made their own Wild Animal Park lost money for years. Later due to the angry opposition of public from the whole country, Beijing Zoo was luckily retained, and the Beijing Wild Animal Park kept its financial loss.
