Chinese tigers trained for wild in Africa
Old 16-09-2008

I just came across this old article (2004) and thought it was interesting. South Chinese tigers from Shanghai Zoo are being sent to Africa to train them to survive in the wild, to later be reintroduced to the wild in China.

This, is shocking, I heard about that experiment with Bengal tigers born in Captivity a few years, back how they were sent to Africa and learned how to hunt, but with a subspecies as crictically endangered as the southern Chinese tiger?! I can see thebenefits yes, but I just think that in an ecosystem totally diffrent than the tiger I don't think its such a wise choice, I would see not many , if not none if they were released into a protected habitat that tigers actually inhabit,

I also heard about the training with Bengal Tigers. I think it was on Animal Planet or Discovery Channel.

More here: Save China's Tigers

Go to "What We Do", then "Tiger Rewilding".

I think this project is a metaphor for conservation. A wealthy person who is given a huge some of money to a cause some so called ''conservationists'' have already given up on. If it was for more people like her, we wouldn't need zoos at all...
