yeah - I think it'd be interesting to mooch around an old zoo - going in where the animals were once kept kind of thing, it'd feel a little bit naughty!!

I know and I really enjoyed it - the old Chimp housing is very cool but the old gorilla housing was depressing!

I've been to Riber some time after it closed (there was a car boot sale there). Eerie is just the word.

There are scenes filmed in the post-closure Riber (at about the same kind of time) in the film 'Dead Man's Shoes' - but be warned, they're not particularly nice scenes... (it's a revenge movie).

Oh I didn't know that - remember going to Riber as a kid - didn't they have a Lynx? I have a particularly bad photo of it somewhere!

They had a lot of lynx - initially of many different taxa, later they specialised in European Lynx and were involved in reintroductions in France.

A few years ago, a friend recommended Plashett Park Zoo in East London. I visited the park and found the zoo, which had been closed down. There were still indications of where the enclosures had been, but I'll never know how good the zoo was.

I also went on a tour around Kennington and was shown the site of the Surrey Zoological Gardens, but there are no external indications that a zoo ever existed there.
