    @dean: Thumbs up!

Your kids made you become more nonconformist? I'd like to meet these kids...;)

"Right" carries such negative and blurry connotations these days and ages (and that all originally based on some seating arrangements). Wouldn't the title be more apt: "Human Child Rearing And Consequent Drift to Mainstream: Survival Mechanism or Wishful Thinking?"

As for "unstoppable socialist youths": an elderly relative of mine (long dead now) was once accosted and attacked by some FDJs as "useless graveyard veg scum" for not making room for their "unstoppable power" on the sidewalk. Too bad for them that he used to be a good boxer back in his days...Long story short: he did stop them that day. Nowadays, these former socialist youths are probably "useless graveyard veg scum" themselves, if still alive. Wonder whether they still consider themselves socialists-or the unstoppable future. ;)

Nonconformist? Of course no. I told you that I become more socialist :)

So looks like you (not personally you) contrapose socialist and conservator (?), conservator and nonconformist (which is close to liberal).
    New ideas for me.

You want to talk for hours on national media without anyone listening, while capitalist students wear the face of your dead companion as a fashion item (often not knowing who he was...)? Be my guest. ;)

I am an American Independent, all for individual liberty, and I see commie/socialism as theft. In a good country, the government defends against violence, but meddles little else in the citizens affairs. You earn it, so you own it, so you keep it.

@Malayan Tiger, if you call socialists/communists thieves then conservaties/liberiterians are also thieves. Because conservative/liberitarian governments do often ruin the social security net of the nation in question. And they often privatize public services, thereby stealing from the state. Also these governments often give tax reliefs too the rich, but the poor still have to pay much taxes. To find examples you can look no further than to your beloved America, but also in Norway that has painfully observed this during the current reign of our conservative government. Also it is not theft as per se, as it is not illegal, and it is a system of sharing and contributing, not stealing. What is more important that the very rich people can afford to buy their 10. luxerious car, and that the security net are lost, or to create a state that is good for everybody?

i'd probably consider anyone other then the green party (they tend to be anti-zoo and anti exotic pet)
my views are mixed between liberal and conservative... but they usually are about giving people more autonomy and choice in their lives (e.g. i am pro equal marriage rights, and pro choice on the abortion issue, but i am also pro gun rights, and against legislation that restricts people for example, anti exotic pet laws.)

First: My political affiliations and opinions are nobody's business but my own.

For what it is worth, I find no justification for fellow Zoochatters making derogatory or disqualifying qualifications over other peoples' political / religous opinions or beliefs. That to me is more or less equal to being intolerant thereof and failing to respect these. Live and let live ... (is my motto).

Same is true for those that claim they have no political or personal opinions at all. It is impossible to live, function, partake and be part of any society without having both of these. Even if you do not vote, you vote ...

I would describe myself as a humanist and a firm believer in one person one vote government, an open and democratic society with transparency in both personal matters and in government and law.

    I'm a libertarian.
One noticeable difference between libertarianism & other ideologies is that libertarians are proud to let others know that they are libertarians.

    Cheers

I'd probably say I'm more of a centrist than anything else. The left or right wing doesn't matter, what matters is if the bird has a head.

not bothered with any political party as they only say what you want to hear and when in power do exactly the opposite.

Mind you may give UKIP ago at the next election as they seem to be the only party in the UK with the guts to say lets get OUT of the EU.

So with the UK election hanging over us now, what do you think of the political parties? What coallition do you think will be formed? I have seen that many of you dont care much or are not much bothered with politics. Are the uniformity of the parties, and the pledges that are not held, a reason for this? Is this the reason for the decline of the two-party system? If you do care about politics, brits, what party do you support and/or have voted?

I voted this morning, but it is a secret ballot and I am not going to disclose how I voted because I don't think that party politics really belongs on ZooChat.
Unusually for a British election, many outcomes are possible: it is quite possible that it will be so hard to form a government with a reliable majority in the House of Commons that we will have to have another general election within a few months.
