ARAZPA is spearheading a regional campaign to lobby the Chinese Govt to stop farming bears for bile, to be used in traditional Asian medicine.
In a press release published on Taronga's website the recent campaign aims to attract one million signatories. all you have to do is sign the petition on line.
haul arse guys and go to ARAZPA - Home and lend your support. please

I couldn't agree more, Glyn.

So-called bear "farming" for bile is the grossest institutionalised cruelty to wild animals that exists in the world today (although the treatment of dogs by Koreans runs it a close second!)

Apparently bear farming is also on the increase in Vietnam.

Some of those bears are held in cages so small that they don't so much live in them as wear them - hardly able to move, and kept like that for years. Fed rubbish, and when they are no longer of use, they are just allowed to starve to death.

China is supposed to be one of the world's oldest civilisations, but there's nothing civilised about their treatment of these animals. Anything that can be done to stamp it out should be done. (This is where the animal libbers should be active, not just the usual soft targets.)

and its good to see the zoos aligning themselves with this sort of work. there needs to be more of this sort of thing done. the cruel conditions these bears are held in should elicit a strong public response if the campaign is carried out within the zoo grounds themselves!
also, credit to taronga and perth zoo who uploaded the campaig info pretty much immediately!
