Zoo Mode

After a couple of commenst made by Ara and boof I thought I'd start athead on what "mode you go into when you get to the zoo, or are about to go to the zoo, wether it's turning into an 8 year old or becoming a giddy schoolgirl. Just thought it would be interesting
I'm not sure why but I am always excited on my way to the zoo, and always, everytime, wether it's the first or 101st time I've been to the place I start to get nervous and butterflies. Once in there I have two "modes". either I'm happy to talk to people, family and strangers and share my knwoldege of the animals exhibits etc but other times I get very annoyed by family members and the general public and wish I was the only one there, so i can truly admire the animals, the exhibits and not have annoying questions thrown at me. This is usually on my first visit to a place, after that I'm fine. What about everyone else? |

The first thing i notice when I walk through the entrance is the smell. I don't know what it is but I always notice it.
i know whwt you mean about different modes. Sometimes i am happy to spend the day with other people and sometimes I like to go alone and spend time just at one exhibit all day. |

the sun rising over the lemur lakes at TWPZ, the smells, atmosphere, sun, bloody beautiful!
Peace on earth, just for a second. But yea butterflies of course all the time. |

wonder why the butterflies. . . it was the same feeling I got when I woke up to chains jingling and looked out my bedroom window to see an elephant walk past, AMAZING . The lemur islands at Dubbo are one of my favourite places in the world. can sit there for hours and hours in a daze.

If you are very early and waiting outside for the zoo to open, the nicest noise is the metal shutters being raised at the entrance area...
I've heard this a number of times, including at Taronga Park with not another potential visitor in sight! |

I love getting there before it opens because all the animals have usually just been let out and are just checking over their exhibits. And i'm usually in the "I wish i was the only on here" mode because i hate little kids, pushers, stupid people and people that run.

The first hour or two after a zoo opens are definately the best part of a visit.. Active animals, enclosures still with water on the floor from cleaning, nice animal smells and best of all- few other people!

For me the best moment is when I've arrived at the zoo, found a quiet seat near the entrance and taken my camera out of the bag.
Then I'm looking for an animal posing nicely and (preferably) behaving in an interesting way. The animals are always the main focus, but I'm also thinking of the direction and quality of the light and the best angles to shoot from in relation to the barriers and the background. Alan
