Red pandas The first red pandas ever hold in Styria arrived at Tierwelt Herberstein in June 2013. It's male "Kaldon" from Touroparc, Romanèche-Thorins, and female "Tumka" from zoo Plock in Poland, both about one year old.
Cotton top tamarins twin born. Mother is Freeza, father is Chrisu. Together with the 2 new babies now 9 Cotton top tamarins are living in Herberstein.

A baby wolverine was born in March 31st, the first baby of the year and in Mid April, a male European bison was born and has been named Anton.
Baby Boom: The zoo has experienced a baby boom during the lockdown with 23 babies born so far. The animals include a Gelada, 2 kangaroos, a Pere David's Deer and more than ten prairie dogs. Sadly 11-year old female Nepalese red panda (Ailurus fulgens) Anouk was euthanised recently, she suffered from age-related illnesses. Currently the zoo is looking for a new mate for their male. Source: Instagram of Tierwerlt Herberstein (05/10/2023)
Jochen Lengger is the new director during 5 years. He already worked at the zoo earlier as vet. He is also known as European Studbook keeper for Eurasian lynx since 2016.
