Of course my Home-Zoo is one of my favourite:-), but I really think, Prague and Dvur are better, in Zlin there are many large and good enclousers for animals, but only a few rare species, they are concentreted, im my eyes, only for common and favourite animals.
Next year will be open a walk through aviary for birds of prey ( Rueppel's griffons ) together with gambian mungo and next big project will be done an enclouser for dscheladas and rock hyraxes.
They planed to keep Abyssinian wolfs, but it's only a dream.

Welcome to Zoobeat!

What about starting a thread only for questions/news related to Zlin-Lesna? I think your home zoo deserves it.

Hi Jakub,

Another poster from a country with a long tradition in good zoos and unusual species. Whereas you are right to say Zoologicke zahrady Praha and Dvur Kralove are more oriented towards rare and unusual species, do not deject Zlin-Lesna or any of the other smaller Czech zoos as non-valid. Most Czech zoos have nice collections and continue to develop so quickly this last decade.

Tell us more about your home town zoo and perhaps Hodonin, Brno, Vyskov and a little further north Olomouc and Ostrava.

The original feature of the ZOO is the gardens' division into sections according to individual continents. So, in one day, you may trek through Africa, travel through Asia, Australia and South America and you, as visitors, can get acquainted with 210 species of animals.

The most impressive animal's enclousers are:
Yucatan tropical hall where are displayed animals, plants and Maya civilazatoin of Yucatan peninsula, in these hall are kept two-toed sloth, tamanduas, white faced sakis, black mantle tamarins, pygmy marmosets, some tropical birds, like sunbittern and gray-winged trumpeters, cuban crocodilles.
The pavilion of African wildlife
with white rhinos - only 2 femalles, there are no spaces to bred theme, Rothschild giraffes, maneless zebras, blesboks and ostriches.
Exhibits of Amazonia
A unique system of natural outlets. Among the best known animals belong squirrel monkeys and the through-going aviary of South American macaws.
A trail for emu runners
Walk through exhibit has become a habitat of kangaroos and brown emus.
The natural exhibits for asian black bears and siberian tigers with outlook, walk-through exhibit for sika deer ( lately this area will be used for african antelopes ).
The zoo is located in a very nice area, in English style park, with more then 1600 species of wood plants and with Chateau Lesna, where the marriages take place a lot.
Olomouc Zoo is located in a wood area, about 11 kilometres from the town, you can get there by bus 11, which departs from main station.
There are some rare species, 3 species of gibbons, african civets, Derby-wallabies, lowland anoas, west caucasian tur, giant anteater, tamanduas, jaguarundis, rodriguez fruit bat, alaskan muskoxs, so the animals collectoin is quite good, but some ensclousers would not win the first price, for examle the concrete exhibit for sunbears, too small primate and south america houses, exhibits for small cats.
Interesting are big cats house with a great aguarium for sharks, small house for nocturnal animals and walk-through exhibit for japanese macaques.
Ostrava zoo - here are many old houses, it is difficult to build new enclousers without subsidies from the town, they are too low to create something new, so receiving money depends on EU grants.
At last year were build elephants enclouser, the himalyan aviaries wit some species of asian birds, red panda exhibit and lemur's islands.
The primate, hippo aind african animal's houses are outdated.
Most interesting animals are Sclater's, crowned and red-bellied lemurs, hanuman langur ( hector subspecies), diana monkey, sri-lanka leopards, binturongs, giant squiriell, common hippos, vietnamese sika deer, siberian deer.

I have never been in Vyskov and Hodonin, I think, Jana is able to post some important informations about this zoos.
At the last 5 years I have started with travelling around Europe to visit some other zoos, before I will get married, I have to improve the opportunities to see some rare species, then will the children come and the time is away:-))).
Something abou Brno Zoo:
I have been there 2 years ago, the most imperssive exhibits are the Tiger's Rock, really very good build, with sumatran tigers a nd sri-lanka leopards, there is a view from the zoo restaurant through the big glas walls.
Very nice are exhibits for canadian beavers and arctic wolfs with an aborigian cabin.
In this time they are developing new exhibits called Beringia - with wolwerines, polar foxes, skunks, Steller's sea eagle, kamtschatka bears - I´m not sure about all species.Other interesting exhibits - barbary sheep together with dscheladas, african savanna with reticulated giraffes, blue wildbeest, ostriches and zebras, Przewalski's horses with an origin mongolian yurt and reptile building called Tropical Kingdom.
Primate houses are terrible, the enclouser for polar bears doesn't loook like well too.
