Hi all, I've posted a couple times in Aussie & NZ threads, but thought I'd introduce myself. My name's Angela, and whilst I am not currently a ZooKeeper, I do love Zoo's, and hope to get back into it in the future. I've previously worked as a Vet Nurse for 3 years in a predominately small animal practice, but we also dealt with all the Underwater World animals (except the seals). I also volunteered at Australia Zoo for 10 months (6 of these months overlapped when I started Vet Nursing) as a Zookeeper. I now live in Victoria, and am studying an animal related TAFE course online, in my own time, whilst looking after my 13 month old daughter. It's not easy, but I manage. Hopefully you experienced Keepers will teach me a thing or 2!
Welcome. I had already appreciated your first posts. Hope you enjoy your time here. I don't know that any of us actually "teach" but we can certainly all learn from each other - that's the beauty of this Forum to me.
Glad you appreciated my initial posts. It's definitely easier to find out information if you were "there", or if you still have friends involved with Zoos. I'm still trying to chase up all the answers that were asked in my initial posts. I can definitely learn things from this forum. In fact I found the Elephant thread rather interesting. I haven't had anything to do with pachyderms, although I did watch an interesting show on them the other day on Nat Geo Wild - Animal Autopsy - Elephant. There's also ones on Giraffe which I caught, but not the Crocodile or whale ones. I suggest people chase up these fascinating shows if you haven't already watched them! Anyway - back to my TAFE assignment.
Welcome. As stated before this forum is both to inform, listen and learn. It helps us all, that is the beauty of it.
