North Island Kaka (Nestor meridionalis septentrionalis) at Wilhelma - April

One of the wide variety of parrot taxa displayed at Wilhelma in the aviary complex located on the Sub-Tropical Terraces overlooking the Moorish Villa, and without a shadow of a doubt the jewel in the zoological collection at Wilhelma; the individuals displayed at Wilhelma were the only North Island Kaka outside New Zealand at the time of our visit. This individual was the older female held at the collection, and as can be seen in this photograph was blind in one eye at the time of my visit.
