-Six Rockhopper penguins hatched in December and on december 14,the first chinstrap penguin, all are being handraised.

I decided to take a break in Tenerife and visited both Loro Parque and Jungle Park.
Can someone tell me how the Orca are trained to do their thing and what this is in the hands of 'trainers'.
Also, what are the origins of the Dolphins; were they captured from the wild purely for this sort of show?

According to Loro Parque's FB page, 7 Sandbar Sharks were born yesterday at the park's aquarium.

Is it possible to visit the offshow breeding area? I'm sure I read somewhere that is is open to the public sometimes, but I can't find any reference to this. Now I'm wondering if I imagined it.

    Yep: http://www.zoochat.com/326/how-visit-loro-parques-private-breeding-358055/

Are you going Rob? Just be mindful that they no longer have any Spix's macaws on show, and on my last visit (2014) a few taxa were down to just one specimen, so you might want to get in touch in advance if there are some parrots you're keen to see. :)

Unfortunately not. It is my brother's next door neighbours.

I want to go to foreign zoos one day but I don't think I ever will.
