Is this zoo also a natural history museum? Looking at other pictures in the gallery I see an extensive display of mounted insects. What was your overall impression of the Buenos Aires Zoo, carlos?
Buenos Aires Zoo is actually the oldest zoo in all of Latin America. It was founded in 1875. Many of the older buildings are historical monuments that cannot be torn down. Various of the buildings are very outdated, so in some cases all they can hold are indeed mounted specimens or educational exhibits. Buenos Aires zoo reminds me of the Menagerie de Jardin des Plantes in Paris, France. Both have very interesting collections in a small area in the middle of the city. Buenos Aires Zoo has chronic financial troubles due to the messy political traditions of that south american country.
