Toddy, Do you know what specie lives here now ?

No, I am affraid not. I have not heard anything since the penguins moved out not so long ago.

I heard they want to make a avary for Inca terns out of it.

where did they move? damn, so upset about that, the reason i decided to pick cologne as one of the zoo's to visit when i go to germany (along with the douc of course!)

They went to Wuppertal, then died out.

Wuppertal then imported a large new group, but these too are not doing well by all accounts. As far as I am aware, however, they are still on show at Wuppertal.

It always amazes me how little penguins seem to be so hard to keep and breed in overseas zoos. At Melbourne Zoo they kept their large breeding group in a small enclosure that had high buildings on three sides, was in shade for most of the day because of the large surrounding peppercorn trees, and had a tiny pool that was about as big as a large bathtub. They've moved to a new bigger exhibit now and have already bred there from what I've heard. One of the craziest things is that there is a wild colony just a short tram ride from the city that breeds along the breakwater from a small harbour. What are they doing wrong?
