shouldnt it be moved onto another colection then? its seems rather silly to house a lone chimp especially when they are social animals.

Personally i think drayton should get rid of animals all together.

The chimp is very old to move him from what has been his home since my first visit to the place in the 1980`s i think would be un-fair on him hes very well looked after and well loved by the staff at the park,as for removing animals from the place i say no it a great place to wander round on a cold winters day next to no visitors so you have the zoo to yourself more or less,in any case all the animals enclosures are pretty good not the best by along shot but not the worst either.

I think Drayton Manor is a tradditional but functional zoo..many of the enclosures have been there since the zoo was built, i would like to see Drayton follow the example of places like Chessington and Flamingoland and give their animal areas some much needed attention

I agree with zoogiraffe that , though fairly basic , there is nothing wrong with the animal housing at Drayton Manor . Modern housing which may look more attractive to the average visitor does not always serve its residents so well .

In most cases i would agree with you about keeping a Chimp on its own but he`s been on his own for at least 6 years if not longer so moving him in with other Chimps at his age wouldn`t be fair.

this is crazy. The enclosure is perfectly adequate compared to some other UK establishments. There is nothing to stop a wealthy, profitable theme park such as Drayton manor from acquiring two or three older female chimpanzees and intergrating them with this male. The fact he has been in this state for some time really isn't a justification. A comparable situation would be with the gorilla at Longleat, but at least they have the excuse that they wouldn't be able to source a female gorilla.

the chimp enclosure isn't a cage, it's fenced by glass from the public side, on the chimp side there is a slope towards the glass, the slopes made of wood and earth, the three other walls (not open to the public) are solid and the chimp house is on the back wall. (i think)
