The Langurs are the same as London's, the Sri Lankan form of Grey Langur. They may have come direct from Bristol- London's are descended from those at Bristol x Twycross. I believe Combe Martin's were obtained as surplus and may be only 3 or 4 in number, possibly all female.(so no breeding)

Obviously, neither Bristol or Twycross have kept them for many years now, but the London ones are bred from foundation stock from those 2 zoos.

Thanks, that's interesting as the rest of the collection is fairly unremarkable. I'm suprised that they keep Concolor gibbons still, if this is indeed the case.

Yes, its almost a children's zoo. I emailed them recently to ask how many langurs they still had, and what the sex ratio was etc, but never got a reply.

These could be the only other Grey Langurs in Uk apart from ZSL ones- and that seems a dwindling group now...

Combe Martin Gibbons
Old 10-07-2008

The 5th July 2008ISIS report some includes stock from Combe Martin .

A male hybrid concolor gibbon is listed . I believe this was one of a brother/sister pair from at Twycross , bred from Zombie and Zoe who produced a lot of young in the 1980's . I believe they were all hand-reared , not certain the exact sub-species of the parents .

Combe Martin also list 1.2 lar gibbons but no langurs .

A pity if the Langurs have now died- although they were evidently a nonbreeding/single sex group. With ZSL now having I think only o.2 left, this species will soon be no more in the Uk- unless somewhere makes an effort to save it.
