1.0 Sumatran Orangutan was born yesterday (1st April) to Anette and Dagu. The first birth of this species in Jersey for several years.... Baby has been named "Jantho"
Fabulous! I planned a visit to Jersey for later this month in the hopes of seeing at least one of the two orang pregnancies bear fruit
He's beautiful! Mum and baby doing very well so far, and we're hoping to reintroduce Anette to the group within the next few days.
I'm heading to jersey the end of this week, can nobody recommend other wildlife attractions, I was planning on going on a "seafari" to spot dolphins and seals etc. however I'm not able to do that anymore so are there any other things an animal lover can do on the island?
Plenty of nice walks and good birdwatching as you are always near the coast. Hotel entertainment is good and the food is great (even fish and chips are above average), and as it is a small island there is normally ime a brisk breeze so make sure to pack a good windbreaker/fleece (even in summer).

I'm not sure if these 2 places are still going,but if they are you could try the Jersey Shire Horse centre,they had a few domestics and a pretty good collection of Parrots,when i visited.Also if its still open there is the Jersey Butterfly House!
If it was me I'd just go back to the Zoo again for a 2nd day. On several (6?) visits to Jersey I've not really seen much else apart from the Zoo!
Durrell... Wild Wall & Green Lizards are worh looking for on Jersey. Feral Black Swans [which breed] are commoner than Mute Swans. But, as suggested above, Durrell Wildlife is the gem. Watch for wild Red Squirrells sharing the trees with Silvery Marmosets, Emperor & Golden Lion Tamarins. You could profitably spend a day on each section. Aye-ayes, Bali Starlings, Gorillas, Choughs, Livingstone's Fruit Bats, Pied Tamarins, Eyelash Vipers, Komodo Dragons -- what more could you wish for?
Hi everyone! The April ape baby-boom is in full swing! Today marks the arrival of Badongo's second born! 18 year-old 'Bahasha' gave birth yesterday afternoon. We aren't sure of the sex of the baby yet, and we are monitoring to make sure baby is getting milk and Bahasha is coping.
Gigit, when are you arriving? We need Dana to hold on... things are pretty hectic here at the moment! Wouldn't have it any other way though!
I have a date with the gorillas on 23 April. Hope that's still on. I had the orangutans as my first choice but that wasn't possible because of the pregnancies.
Are you around until the 28th? That's when we open The Gerald Durrell Story exhibition. You should be able to see Jantho and the whole orang family then, as well as all the gorillas, if all goes to plan. If it's primates you're hoping to see, we also have baby golden lion tamarin twins, a baby howler monkey, a young Sulawesi macaque and Dana will be due roughly around this time too.
Thanks for all the extra animal/wildlife ideas, I'm here in jersey now and going to save (if I can wait!) the zoo for my birthday treat on the 19th I'm here with the wife so I can't go all out jersey zoo everyday, however I'm sure if I was here alone I would be!
aargh, you're in Jersey and you're waiting four days to go to the zoo!!!! (Or is it five days where you are?) Anyway, good luck with that!
I know! But good things come to those who wait! I have checked for the butterfly center and shire horse center and I'm sorry to say they are sadly closed which just leaves durrell as the only wildlife visitor attraction on the island.
