Elephant Enclosure
Old 14-09-2008

Just been having a browse of the knowsley aerial map and noticed the size of the elephant enclosure. It seems like a really good, large, grassed exhibit for them.

Are the elephants given access to the area with trees just behind the enclosure?

Does anyone have any pictures of the elephant enclosure?

When I visited Knowsley about 5 years ago, I wasn't able to see the exhibit properly as it was raining very heavily (a safari park curse for me i visited longleat and it was raining heavily so the elephants were not able to be seen properly through the car windows and the boat ride was cancelled!)

From what I remember they do not, as they have hotwired the ground and so only have a large paddock, but from vistor point of view it seems they have a very large area (not saying its small, just without fencing it looks alot bigger)

I didn't mean that...

I was saying that the rain was bad that I couldn't see the elephants and i also couldn't see the hippos, gorillas and sealions.

Can concur these comments. The hotwires are close to the ground and unobservant would miss them. I don't believe that they have access to any trees, mostly grassy paddock.

Are the seals and hippos in the same bit of river on the boat ride?

At longleat, the Sea lions & Hippos are in the same man-made lake. There is a boat trip around the lake that not only takes in the Sea Lions (which often swim along side the boat) & hippos, it also gives you views of gorilla island and the pelicans on the lake.
