Does anyone have any maps of Glasgow Zoo? Also any pictures? There are a few on here but not really any enclosure views to get a sense of what the zoo was like.

'African lions, golden eagles, white rhinoceri, basking sharks, Indian peacocks, Capuchin monkeys, Asian black bears, several snakes and a polar bear were just some of the exotic animals that brought in many visitors over the years.' Really??? Presumably a stuffed specimen... Although I never visited Glasgow I recall the praise for the design of the black bear enclosure.
I visited once, shortly before it closed. It was depressing as many enclosures were empty. The Himalayan bear enclosure was very large on a sloping hill side and the bears seemed fine. Otherwise there was not much to see, I recall two white rhinos (I think one was bred there) and a trio of white-throated capuchins and there may have been a tiger: but I would surely have remembered a shark of any kind if I had seen one.

We never kept Basking Sharks at Calderpark (Glasgow Zoo) it looks like the story was created using some of the content on Wikipedia.
I don’t think that Glasgow Zoo ever bred a white rhinoceros. One of Glasgow Zoo’s white rhinos was the female southern white rhino “Mashobeni” formerly at London Zoo. She was sent to Glasgow in 1986 a few weeks after her long-term companion, London Zoo’s northern white rhino “Ben”, was sent to Dvur Kralove. “Mashobeni” died in Glasgow in 1995.
My memory is at fault, I'm sorry I think I may have transplanted Edinburgh's white rhinos into Glasgow's empty enclosure. I think my visit was in 1996. I don't think I took any photos at the zoo.
Glasgow did keep Southern White rhino the last being an elderly male called Zulu (wildborn on 05/08/1968 in umfolozi game reserve and holding Stud number 90) who subsequently moved to a collection in Germany when Glasgow closed.
I would be surprised, given their specialised feeding requirements, if Basking Sharks, even juveniles, have ever been kept in captivity.
You don't say!!!! I suspect they may have housed a stuffed specimen at some stage, if that. Odd thing to have put into the newspaper. Maybe journalists should question whether a zoo might be able to house the second biggest species of fish in the world.
Glasgow Zoo did not have Basking Shark. The press using Wikipeadia made the assumption based on misunderstanding the Glasgow Zoo page, which has a mention of the shark. The zoo mentions Basking Shark as a way of information, it does not mention that the zoo kept the shark. Furthermore, the zoo kept numerous crocodile species, seal, sealion but not a Basking Shark. As for White Rhino, the zoo kept numerous rhino and as mentioned by someone else, the last being Zulu who was at the time and until his death, the oldest male white rhino.
“Zulu” was born around 1968, arrived at Whipsnade in 1970 and was sent to Glasgow in 1975 where remained until the zoo closed 2003; he died in 2006 aged approximately thirty-eight years. According to the studbook, “Zulu” died on 12 January 2006; another male white rhino died a week earlier, in America, on 5th January 2006 at about forty-seven years old so “Zulu” could only have been the oldest male white rhino for about a week.
If by 'numerous' you mean three, then yes it did. Zulu, already mentioned, plus Mashobeni (f. from 1986-1995) and Gus/Gingindhlovu (m. from 1975-1981). bigcatman1... hmmm, sounds a bit like bigcatspeciali...
Sorry to pull up an old topic but thought it was best posting in here rather than starting a new identical thread. I am attempting to build Glasgow Zoo in Planet Zoo; I want to build it in a derelict state then have a series about saving and modernising the zoo. I have been able to collect near 200 images from Flickr and various google searches. However, without a recent Zoo map I am struggling to make sense of some of buildings and any potential layout I was hoping anyone would possibly have a recent map of the zoo and possibly other images that are not publicly available, even older images of the exhibits from when the zoo was still open would be a massive help. Below are three screenshots showing a first draft of some buildings/habitats.
