How do you find a zoo in a given area?
Old 23-08-2012

I was wondering how different users work out where the nearest zoo is to a given area in the UK. I thought listing methods on here might be useful.

I have a bit of a fear of narrowly missing out on something big if I go somewhere new, so I try to be quite thorough.

So here's what I do:

1. Google/Youtube/Flickr searches (applicable around the world)
2. Zootierliste 'zoo radius search' (around Europe)
3. www.daysoutwiththekids.com*
4. A quick search of Defra's zoo list ( http://archive.defra.gov.uk/wildlife...s/zoo-list.pdf )*

* Only useful for the UK

Does anyone else have any thoughts?

Purchase "The IZES Guide to British Zoos & Aquariums" as not only is every single British zoo and aquarium reviewed but there is a handy map near the back with all of their locations.

How in-date is this book? Obviously [even in the past year] new collections have opened and others have closed -I think that whilst it would be a nice addition to a book collection and a good start, the internet is more apt for what Devilfish is after

Thanks guys. I didn't expect that it'd be very useful in working out which zoos are in a given area, but I'll definitely give it a try!

Does anyone else do anything different?

BIAZA Zoos and Aquariums - Biaza

I know only works with member zoos, but useful none the less.
