The new baby pygmy Hippo is a girl

Went to Colchester today (in the pouring rain) and was lucky enough to see it - very bad photos to follow :D -

It was in the very dark area that goes to the outside so very difficult to get a decent photo with all the reflections and not wanting to use a flash!!

Did you find out when she was born? From what I saw on saturday she looked as if she may have only been a few hours old?

Normally good news, but I believe in this species there is (unusually) a shortage of Males in Zoos.:(

They are always very appealing as babies...:)

Thanks Goretex but they aren't very good but considering I was shooting into the dark with a high ISO so something would come out I was lucky to get anything lol Last one is very zoomed in and cropped thats why its so blurry (honestly)

Colchester haven't announced it yet, someone asked on facebook they put (quote colchester zoo - facebook) 'Thank you for your comment, Venus is fit and well and is being closely watched by the keepers during this time, we will have some updates for you soon!' OOPS
