Now we're talking!!! Hunting Dogs would be a brilliant addition to Marwell, they're doing well in other UK collections and they make a great exhibit. I agree about the long enclosure though, so I don't think the old Jaguar area would be suitable. Any ideas on what could go there anybody? I'll start the ball rolling and suggest Clouded Leopards!

ermm, the bad thing is that it is such a small area, maybe bring back the jaguars or lions?

or how about another primate cage like gibbons or macaques

or maybe a animal thats lives on slopes: goral, japenese macaques (?)

Bat-Eared fox area will become part of the Congo biome, so they'd be near Into Africa.

But I'm thinking of not just the old jaguar enclosure, but the long stretch of grass behind it being included too; suprised no one thought of that. Goral, if they kept them again, would likely be near Roof of the World.

I was taking that into account- they could have a long narrow enclosure stretching the whole length of that side of the Oryx/zebra paddock- just widening out to take in the area of the old Jaguar enclosure.

the persian leopard enclosure was next to the old gibbon enclosure. It now exhibits 3 giant eggs of elephant birds

I would also like them to exhibit C O C K of the rock in the south american biome
will the sitatunga stay in there currant enclosure.
a bit off topic, have marwell bred there babarusa

- Actually, you're thinking of the former Snow Leopard enclosure. Persian Leopards used to be in the area of the current amur leopard enclosure, and finally in the old lion enclosure until Sita died in 2005.
- Umm...
- Sitatunga are currently in what will become the boreal forest biome, so they'd probably move to the eventual West African Wetland biome which will be centered around the current hippo house, or moved to another collection entirely.
- Babirusa have bred back in 1992 not long after they arrived. There is a breeding pair at Marwell who arrived a year or two back, with hopes to gain more piglets from these two.

It would be quite interesting to just widen the zebra, ostrich and oryx paddock to take in that strip of land.

Does anyone know what other species are currently kept offshow at Marwell? There are a number of areas around the park where glimpses can be seen of what might be enclosures, so I wondered if anyone could shed some light on this please?

They're mostly suplus stock or quarantine. I've only been in one of the service yards once, when a kind worker let us see the bat-eared foxes before they went on show. They, and the other animals I saw which I remember being Black-and-White Ruffed Lemurs and Sun Conures, were kept in cages similar to the ones behind the gibbon complex (now off-show enclosures themselves). The behind-the-scenes enclosures are the stable yard behind Tropical World where I saw the foxes, the mentioned avairy row behind the gibbons and a few yards in the strip opposite the play area. In the future, the plan is to create one big service yard on the site of the wild ass/roan paddocks with a viewable vet centre, allowing Tropical World and the Boreal Forest biome to expand.
