Linton Zoo Amur Tigers
Old 11-10-2008

Does anyone have any up to date news about the tigers at Linton zoo?

According to last tiger news on there website (usually not very up to date!) they have
Deja (F)
Mirko (M)
Katinka (F) daughter

After the news on Colchester zoodays that Anouska was not a pure bred Amur I was wondering which one of the parents was not a pure bred Amur?

Also does anyone know what has happened the the rest of the litters?

Katinka 19/04/2006 (F) ? still at Linton
Mahari 19/04/2006 (M)

Annouska 07/2004(F) Colchester
Czar 07/04/2004 (M) Colchester to ?
Uri 07/04/2004 (M) Colchester to ?

Anastasia 1/2/2003 (F) sadly deceased when at colchester 03/2005

I must admit I havent visited Linton for a while I usually go ALOT when they have had the cubs and have watched them all grow up so any information would be very interesting

Would also like any information on how the news that they may not be pure Amur tigers has affected them and the zoos they went to

I dont ask for alot lol
Many thanks

Thank you for that

The cubs grandmother was apparently a wild tiger that was rescued from poachers, I remember when Colchester got Anastasia they were very excited over her place in the breeding programme as they probably were for her sister Anouska! What a shame

I know that Mahari (male) from the last litter born 2006 went to Wildlife Heritage Foundation Kent breeding centre where he was due to be paired up with an Amur female there. I'm unsure as to whether they have been paired up yet?

Hi All,
I go to Linton Zoo on pretty much a daily basis. Are you still after info on the Amurs at Linton Zoo?
if you want to see some recent photos of them, have a look at this link: Siberian Amur Tigers at Linton Zoo.
The attached photo of Tanika was taken on the 5th November 2008.

Are they kept as a group the tigers, or are they rotated to prevent the dad from breeding with the daughter? Are there plans to move the daughter out to another zoo (probably not for breeding as they are hybrids)?

They are kept apart, Murco comes out in the evening, then the two girls go inside.
There are plans for Deja (the daughter) to go to another zoo; I think its Ukraine (one of them sort of countries. From what I gather, this is going to happen in the near future.

Once she has gone, then they will breed again.

But dont quote me on any of this.

I'm sure it was on an earlier thread that the mother was a hybrid and that the male was the only pure bred amur tiger there?

Has the young lioness had her litter of cubs yet, i know it said on the website that she was due around October. Are there plans to breed off the 2 pairs of lions now?

Thanks both of you for the updates!

Surely they cant breed again knowing that the cubs may possibly not be wanted as they are not pure Amur tigers!

We saw 13 May 2008 Zara (born 13 May 2008) the first cub born to Zuri and Safina when we recently visited Paradise Wildlife Park. She was in a small enclosure adjoining the 2 adult lions and seemed to have a constant flow of keepers in with her all having a play! Visitors too that were on keeper days!

Is it usual for 2 hand reared lions to not be able to raise their own cub or is it just a first litter problem?

Safinas second litter was born a few weeks ago, but they were all still born. Which was a big blow for the Zoo and especially Safina.
This link Lions at Linton Zoo shows you a few photos of Zara (the cub from Safinas first litter).
I will find out tomorrow what their plans are for Zuri and Safina, I shall let you know what I find out.
