I'm trying to write up a list of collections (zoos, aquariums, wildlife parks, rare breed farms, etc) which are based in the North of England. This is what I've got on my list so far:

Gauntlet Birds of Prey Centre (Knutsford, Cheshire)
    Harewood House (Leeds, West Yorkshire)
Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens (Ponteland, Northumberland)
    Knowsley Safari Park (Prescot, Merseyside)
    Lakeland Wildlife Oasis (Milnthorpe, Cumbria)
    Lakes Aquarium (Windermere, Cumbria)
    Lotherton Hall (Leeds, West Yorkshire)
Martin Mere Wetland Centre (Ormskirk, Lancashire)
    Muncaster Castle (Ravenglass, Cumbria)
Park Rose Bird of Prey Centre (Bridlington, East Yorkshire)
Ponderosa Rare Breeds Farm (Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire)
    Reaseheath Zoo (Nantwich, Cheshire)
Scarborough Sea Life Centre (Blackpool, Lancashire)
Sewerby Hall and Gardens (Bridlington, East Yorkshire)
South Lakes Wild Animal Park (Dalton-in-Furness, Cumbria)
Temple Newsam Park (Leeds, West Yorkshire)
    The Deep (Hull, East Yorkshire)
The Jungle Zoo (Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire)
Thorp Perrow Arboretum (Bedale, North Yorkshire)
Tropical Butterfly House (Sheffield, South Yorkshire)
    Tropical World (Leeds, West Yorkshire)
Trotters World of Animals (Keswick, Cumbria)
    Tweddle Farm (Hartlepool, County Durham)
Washington Wetland Centre (Washington, Tyne and Wear)
Yorkshire Dales Falconry (Settle, North Yorkshire)
Yorkshire Wildlife Park (Doncaster, South Yorkshire)

Are there any others that I have missed?

    Thanks,

    Mr.Weasel

Is the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis still open? Then there's Muncaster Castle and plenty of Birds of Prey Centres including one at Lightwater Valley (still open?). Thorpe (can't find my leaflet so it could be Thorp, mmm doesn't look right though) Perrow has a Birds of Prey and a Mammal Centre. As you are in West Yorkshire I presume Pudsey Park isn't big enough to qualify. What's the name of that farm in Leeds? Ah, Temple Newsum, has it got rare breeds? I haven't heard of the Jungle Zoo at Cleethorpes having closed and it is not too long since it was taken over. Of course there are bird and Sealion shows at Pleasure Island if they count. Around here there is the Animal Education Centre at Hull (in East Park, two other parks did have aviaries but a lot of money was spent to build the AEC not many years ago), Park Rose Birds of Prey Centre and Animal Park just south of Bridlington and Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park too. In Cayton near Scarborough there is Playdale. I don't know exactly what is there, but not long ago it definitely had Alpacas and Cameroon Sheep.

Just thought. Where are you drawing your boundary through Lincolnshire? The south of the county has a few collections.

How about Croxteth Home Farm in Liverpool? It's a Rare Breeds Survival Trust centre. And of course Knowsley Safari Park and Martin Mere Wetland Centre.

Thank you for those contributions, Parrotsandrew! Most of them I have never heard about before!

I think I will only include collections in the North and North East of Lincolnshire. ;)

Edit: Thank you for your contributions as well, Shirokuma and Maisie, I'll add them to the list as soon as I can!

There's a Birds of Prey centre in Northumberland that has featured in "Cage & Aviary Birds" on occasion. I think it begins with a "k". I don't think the one I am thinking of is at Kielder Water, but something is telling me there could be one there. Investigation time.

Back from investigating - the place I was thinking of isn't in Northumberland at all, it's Kirkleatham Owl Centre at Redcar. There is a Kielder Water Birds of Prey Centre too. Whilst I was investigating, I remembered there at least used to be a zoo licensed place at Middlesbrough (municipal I think) as Andrew Greenwood told the staff at Sewerby he had done its inspection, but that would be a few years ago as he hasn't done Sewerby's inspection for a while. When there was a chance that Sewerby's monkeys would be rehomed there was talk of them going to a place in the North East. I think this was at Peterlee - I was thinking Ponteland, but on second thoughts I think it was Peterlee. Perhaps a ZooChatter from the North East could help.

looking at the list. Harewood House Bird collection has now closed. the birds have been relocated to other zoos around the U.K. As for Lakeland Wildlife Oasis. This is very much still open and have made and continue to make BIG improvements over recent years. We have annual passes to the zoo, as we only live like 15 minutes from it. It is only a small zoo, but if your in the aria it is very much worth a visit.
