Lowland gorillas in Europe
Old 04-09-2007

On the Twycross elephants some passing notes on new collections:

Valencia Zoo, a remodelled park in Spain, is to receive gorillas. Is this a bachelor troop or breeding group situation.

grantsmb mentioned SamSam - currently at Twycross - is to be sent to Spain and only was "on transfer" in at Twycross. Destination?

1. Valencia. I am not sure but they are scheduled to have the old male Catou from Duisburg( his replacement will be Mapema) and his oldest female partner Dorle. But also they are scheduled to have younger females from Frankfurt and Belfast and the male Mambi from La Boisssiere (he is Twycross Ozala's brother). These three would certainly be for breeding. So I guess it will be a 'retirement home' for the pair and breeding for the others...

2. Samsam(and Yinka) were at Twycross 'enroute' to Carbacinero in Spain. Things changed when Yinka died and now SAmSam will not go to Spain alone, but will probably stay permanently in Twycross.
