Just seen the photo in the Gallery by CZ Jimmy of this remarkable and slightly scary-looking marmoset. Whereabouts is this and how big is it...?

Could I get one to go with my Garden Gnomes?

This one Pertinax?

It is found along the pathway which runs between the two monkey exhibits. As you enter from the side closest to the twilight zone, it is on your left after the indoor building (I think anyway)

I'm not sure about animal models in zoos. Maybe I should look at the relevant discussion thread.

It's just outside the fence around the enclosure where the Geoffroy's marmosets are kept and only a little larger than life-size. I always assumed that it was a trompe d'oeuil thing - you notice out it out of the corner of your eye and wonder if a marmoset has escaped - then you have another look and realise the truth.
There is also (or there was earlier in the year) a crocodile head floating in the canal between the gentle lemur's house and the bridge. I don't know if the people running the boat rides use it in their patter (or indeed, whether they say anything at all).
However the gold medal for naffness must go to the peeing rhino on the wall of the Tsavo house.

Chester does seem to have a big contrast between the naff models (black rhino, crocodile) and the very well done ones (for example all of the elephant house ones, meerkat statue)

The meerkat statue is more a piece of art than the other 'educational' models.

Gentle Lemur: Regarding the crocodile head, it is part of the boat trip. There are a number of rubber animals to spot, snakes, crocs, frogs, a bat under the bridge, and I think there might even be a shark round the back of the anoa island somewhere!

In it's defence it always makes a great impression on the kids - even if they don't go on to learn about scent marking, kids having a good time means a family more likely to return and pay another entrance fee.

i cant remeber clearly but the peeing rhino, does it spray? as i remeber two people walking by casually gazing at the rhino when they were scared silly by a spray

It does but its designed not get anywhere near the public, you could imagine some stupid person complaining that they got wet!

there's that sort of thing at newquay zoo to.... they have a tapir (board though not a model) and it sprays water out of its trunk at people
