Not a lot of news but they have finally completed the upgrading of the gibbon enclosures at the top of the park, amalgamating two of the smaller runs into bigger enclosures.

Another stump-tailed macaque arrived from Germany, called Floh.

The baby chimp Thelma is six months old and being cared for by her mother Cherri in the group.

A few changes - Sally's group (ex "Chimp Nursery") have moved to the first orangutan enclosure and orangutan Gordon, with Amy, Hsiao-lan and Lucky have moved to the ex-chimp nursery. Both enclosures have had modifications.

The female chimps seem to be taking it in their strides, the male chimps Rodders and Bryan look less than delighted. Amy is checking for weaknesses and Gordon looked to be enjoying sitting in front of the indoor window watching people on Friday.

Joly and A-mei are currently in the other orangutan enclosure with Tuan, RoRo, Hsiao-quai and Awan.

Interesting to have chimps and orang literally over the fence from each other, wonder what they will think of that! I expect the orangs are also unimpressed as from what I remember the nursery enclosure only has a small indoor house.

The house was considerably extended last year. Hananya's chimp group were getting a look at the new neighbours on Saturday afternoon, jumping up and down clapping and banging on the tunnel. They'll soon get over it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't this Amy's original enclosure, back when she shared it with Banghi. And the enclosure that Gordon was born in and after a year of being human raised, reintroduced to Amy and lived in.

Amy certainly did live there at some point, I'm not sure exactly when in her MW career! At that point the chimp nursery was where the golden cheeked gibbons Zoey and Jake now live.

Sorry, just re-read the move around, the bachelor group used to occupy the enclosure that Sally's group has moved into.

I haven't Visited MW in atleast 9 years, I really need to get down for a visit.

Sally's group have moved into half of what was, until a couple of years ago, one large orangutan enclosure. They split it down the middle so Tuan and Gordon could go outside at the same time. Gordon immediately GREW!!!

It was certainly on the site of this enclosure. Being much earlier in their history, it was smaller and simpler though with some climbing poles and a simple wooden shelter positioned on them, all surrounded by just a few strands of electric fence.

I imagine they moved the Gordon group back over there as possibly the two adult males were threatening each other- they tend to become destructive to the enclosure if that happens.

The enclosure that Sally's group have moved into and the one that Tuan's group now occupy used to be one enclosure.

Sally/Tuan's houses are having a lot of work to enlarge them and (to the great relief of the not-so-young visitor) get rid of the 'bunker' that you viewed at knee level!

Got great views of Gordon in his new enclosure traversing overhead walking on hoses!

Presumably his mother was Jambi who was born in Chester in 1998.
